Around town: Greenwich park, London... on a sunny June evening

Fancy spending a sunny evening in one of London's most beautiful parks? That's what we did yesterday. Check out these photos from the rolling Royal Park at Greenwich, (South East London) home to the Greenwich meridian

Time of visit: Monday evening, June 2013

...some photos straight from my iPhone...

Looking over the small boating lake, with views across to the remnants of the old industrial buildings of Greenwich (spot the tall chimneys in the distance)

Views over the rolling hills across to The City (i.e. the financial district) the Shard is the standout landmark here

Realise this looks like the countryside, but it really is Greenwich park - the building on the hill is where the GMT 'line'  is located

Looking over the park towards the River Thames & Canary Wharf

Plenty of quiet spots to sit & relax

There are some beautiful oak trees in the park

Find a quiet spot to soak up the beautiful surroundings

For the more serious walkers, put on your hiking boots & explore the Heath

Wander into the nearby residential streets & feel like you've stumbled into a beautiful English village

Restaurant Review: Pizarro, Bermondsey St, London

What's the Curbappeal?
- contemporary hipster joint with fabulous Spanish cuisine;
- beautiful views of historic Bermondsey Street. The hottest area for foodies in London right now.

Cafe review: WH (the 'Watch House'), Rotherhithe Village, London

What's the curbappeal?
-Quirky cafe set in a beautiful churchyard/park
-Those yummy cakes (see photo)
-Lovely area (Rotherhithe Village, Rotherhithe) - very historic. The Mayflower set sail closeby in 1620 and the local pub (also named The Mayflower)  is from the same period. Lots of period buildings closeby.

Ps. Curious about its name, the Watch House? Back in time, it was used to watch for grave robbers at St Mary's Church, opposite the cafe. Interesting!

Cafe review: Cafe Cappuccino, Puerto Portals, Majorca

NB. There are a few branches of Cappuccino in Majorca, we also went to the one situated in the shopping district of Palma (see earlier blog post)

What's its Curbappeal:
- huge outdoor pavement seating area overlooking the beautiful yachts in Puerto Portals, great spot for people watching
- indoors you'll find the signature Cafe Cappuccino furnishings of casual wicker chairs set round small round grey marble tables
- small study-styled reading area with large comfy sofas

Crowd: largely older European

Food & drink rating: we had a cous cous salad (tasty, moist & large portion) & sushi tuna rolls (v nice)....a repeat of the food from the other day...as it was so tasty. We washed that down with a couple of glasses of rose cava

The bill: pricey but food quality is good & the cafe has a lovely atmosphere with a great central setting within Puerto Portals

Time of visit: Lunchtime, May 2013

Restaurant Review: El Unico, Puerto Portals, Majorca

What's it's Curbappeal?
- outdoor terrace overlooking the yachts in the harbour
- exclusive feel; you get to the restaurant having being escorted by staff to a private glass lift that takes you up into the restaurant
- delicious fresh fish; there's no menu here - the waiter shows you the catch of the day & let's you pick your feast
- huge wine list
- atmospheric & quirky Flanigan bar downstairs (chairs & model planes hang from the ceiling) to have a pre or post dinner drink

Time of visit: Saturday night, May 2013
