Around town : Punta del Este (out of season), Uruguay

Without a doubt the loveliest areas we found in Punta (as the locals call it), were; Jose Ignacio, Garzon and La Barra. I'd love to return in peak season (ie December and January). The weather was poor during our stay in April and the resorts were quiet (albeit very reasonable rates to be had!).

Jose Iganacio.
Beautiful beach at Jose Ignacio.

Entrance to the stunning beach cafe/restaurant/bar La Huella, Jose Ignacio.

Punta del Este.
The famous 'fingers' on the beach at Punta del Este, which warns people the waters on the beaches at this side of the Punte peninsular faces the ocean, as opposed to the river.

La Barra.
We had so much rain the river burst it's banks and flooded the main road, just north of La Barra.

Beautiful 'out of another world' grounds at the Fasano hotel, close to La Barra.

Garzon.
Beautiful peaceful village, which felt right out of a Western movie, except for the odd little expensive boutique stores starting to creep in.

Out the back of Restaurant Garzon. Simply stunning food at this Francis Mallmann restaurant.

Time of visit: April 2014.

Hotel : around the grounds of Hotel Fasano Las Piedras, Punta del Este, Uruguay

  • Stunning 'out of another world' grounds...

Who would have guessed this was a bar?

Loved the the little seating area by the tennis courts.

  • One of the beautifully stylish restaurants

    Time of stay: April 2014.

Restaurant : Piano Nobile, Park Hyatt, Buenos Aires

    An elegant and sophisticated restaurant

On a sunny day, try dining on the beautiful terrace

    Restaurant: Restaurant Garzon, Garzon, Uruguay

The food in restaurant Garzon was the best food we ate during our stay in Uruguay. The interior design of the restaurant was gorgeous. I would go back to Uruguay just to return to the quaint village of Garzon and this amazingly good food.

View onto the central square in Garzon

Time of visit: late lunch (even for Uruguay!), April 2014.

Restaurant : Unik, Buenos Aires, Argentina

What's the curbappeal? Retro restaurant with gorgeous contemporary cuisine.
