Restaurant Review: El Unico, Puerto Portals, Majorca

What's it's Curbappeal?
- outdoor terrace overlooking the yachts in the harbour
- exclusive feel; you get to the restaurant having being escorted by staff to a private glass lift that takes you up into the restaurant
- delicious fresh fish; there's no menu here - the waiter shows you the catch of the day & let's you pick your feast
- huge wine list
- atmospheric & quirky Flanigan bar downstairs (chairs & model planes hang from the ceiling) to have a pre or post dinner drink

Time of visit: Saturday night, May 2013

Hotel Review: Santo Mauro, Madrid, April 2013

It's Curbappeal:
- Beautiful elegant building
- Pretty garden to relax in
- Located in wealthy residential district
- Calming & exclusive vibe

Crowd: Largely couples, aged 30+ but most very glam/elegant

Food Rating: we only ate breakfast & was disappointing.

Our room: 17 (superior room). Not in main building but in quiet 'stables' styled building. Room opened straight onto quiet courtyard. Large long room with separate dressing area & large bathroom (separate rooms for toilet & shower). Room style was classically elegant & relaxing colours (beige & brown furniture & walls)

Anything we didn't like:
- Breakfast was very mediocre (scrambled eggs were dry & museli came in small Kellogg's packets) - we'd expected more of a five star hotel
- No vanity kits in the rooms (cotton wool etc) nor available when asked
- Eur13 for large bottle of Perrier water to the room with eur5 charge for delivery!

The bill: not too bad (apart from room service bill as mentioned above)

Recommended: definitely - already planning our return stay

Hotel Review: Casa dell' Arte Residence, Torba, Bodrum Peninsula,Turkey. July 2012

It's Curbappeal:
- Feeling of an exclusive personal villa with your own staff
- Unique combination of art gallery & hotel
- Picture perfect location

Crowd: monied.

Food rating: very good

Our room: Virgo. Large, very quiet & view over the pool.

The bill: pricey but boy is it worth it

Recommended: most definitely. Make sure if you want a more exclusive break you choose 'The Residence' not 'The Luxury Family Resort' - the latter is in a separate building next door & whilst it's still v nice its aimed at families (hence the name!) & definitely not as exclusive as The Residence
