Hotel Review: SLS, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California

What’s the curbappeal?

The strikingly unusual public areas designed by Philippe Starck: in the lobby and breakfast area you’ll find illuminated moose-heads and machine gun lamp stands paired with high-end contemporary Cassina furniture. The rooftop pool and deck features unique oversized mirrors, urns and artwork, as well as fabulous views over Los Angeles.

My room was more understated - calm, sleek and luxuriously appointed: think more custom Cassina furniture; a contemporary button-back banquette in butterscotch; crisp white 300-thread count Fili d’Oro linens and a glam brown faux mink throw. Lovely contemporary rainforest shower unit.

The spa is absolutely gorgeous: 5,000 square feet of pure, unadulterated, white-on-white chic. It’s going into the shortlist for my 2013 ‘Most Fabulous’ awards.

Restaurant Review: Oliverio at the Avalon hotel, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California

What's the Curbappeal?
- a retro design masterpiece....
- the outside tables: located around the hourglass-shaped pool, made famous by Marilyn Monroe photo-shoots. We recommend securing a table out here, the inside is gorgeous too but we found the pool-side atmosphere electric.
- the restaurant serves 'regional Italian' cuisine (the Executive Chef - Mirko - is from Milan). I had a delicious dish of fresh pappardelle with Lamb ragu: divinely rich yet not too heavy. We'll be back!

(web)sights that inspire us: Colberg, Sloane Square, Chelsea, London

What's the Curbappeal?
- Design reflects the grand boulevard cafe's of Paris : think red leather banquettes, black and white photographs, chequered tiled flooring and vintage posters.

Curbappeal has yet to visit this venue, but you can check it out here:www.colbertchelsea.com/#gallery

Hotel Review: Hotel Erwin, Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California

      What’s the curbappeal?

- Vibrant and fun interior: lots of bright primary colours, surf-and-skate inspired artwork, retro / mid-century modern furniture and fabrics
- Awesome views over Venice Beach, especially from our room: select 'Ocean-view' rooms, not 'City' ones
- Hip rooftop bar with stunning views across LA, and the beach: perfect for sun-downers. We loved lounging on the sofas and soaking in the views – see photos below
- Perfect for hipsters, beach lovers and party-people: albeit we found the hotel quiet even though it attracts a younger crowd

With Love,
Ms. Curbappeal x
